CHIP Online: InterRed content management system for working from home
- 27.04.2020
For almost 20 years, Germany's largest technology and consumer portal CHIP Online has been using the InterRed content management system. Thanks to the decentralised and browser-based solution, the majority of employees are now producing content outside of the office due to the current situation – quickly, reliably and with the same performance as before.

InterRed CMS: browser-based, independent, high-performance
CHIP Online is the German-language internet's most-widely read editorial technology and consumer portal. As a ‘digital compass for conscious consumers’, the CHIP experts advise readers on products and services in their everyday lives. As the first point of contact for secure software downloads, CHIP also offers its users access to a huge database of around 50,000 downloads, which are continuously checked by the editorial team and maintained and updated via the InterRed content management system.
With over 75 million visits, 136 million page views and over 26 million unique visitors (unique users according to AGOF) per month, the chip.de website is one of the top 10 most popular portals in Germany. CHIP has been successfully using the InterRed content management system since 2001.
The majority of the more than 200 employees currently work outside of the office building and create content such as news, test reports and downloads decentrally and independently of location. One of the most important factors here, among other things, is performance.

Kim Berkemeyer is the desk manager (CvD Newsdesk) at CHIP: ‘When our team works from home, we want to ensure that the work runs just as smoothly as it does in the office, just as it has done so far.’
That's why, in the current situation, Berkemeyer sees InterRed's browser-based use as its biggest advantage:
‘This means that we don't need any additional software and we don't have to worry about the compatibility of the hardware used. At the same time, we have not noticed any difference in performance; we work just as quickly and efficiently from home as we do in the office.’
Regular updates continue to ensure new features and constant optimisation:
‘There are often new features and improvements in the backend, but since they are server-based and do not affect the core functions, they do not hinder our work,’
says Berkemeyer.

Niels Held, Editor-in-Chief of CHIP Online: ‘We are currently experiencing a significant increase in the number of users of our website. The decentralised use of the web-based CMS is crucial to reliably provide the millions of readers with up-to-date content even from their home offices. With InterRed as our partner for decades, we are well prepared for this.’
