First step towards print automation: Heidenheimer Zeitung opts for InterRed editorial system

Heidenheimer Zeitung is taking the next step towards future-proof media production: by once again choosing the InterRed editorial system, the publishing house is specifically focusing on the possibilities offered by AI-based print automation. An important aspect of this is the introduction of SmartTemplate technology, which enables the automated creation of print layouts based on existing online content – a significant milestone on the road to complete automation with InterRed SmartPaper.

Efficient reuse of online content
As part of the project, interfaces were created that automatically transfer content from the online offering and prepare it for print publication. All necessary paragraph formatting and style templates are taken into account. This allows articles from the digital domain to be efficiently used for print production with minimal effort.
The print titles Heidenheimer Zeitung, Heidenheimer Neue Presse and the weekend edition benefit from significantly simplified production. Thanks to functions such as LiveLayout and LiveCopy, editors and layout designers can work directly on the page and flexibly adapt content, for example for additional info boxes or an expanded image selection.
InterRed SmartTemplates as the key to automation
The introduction of InterRed SmartTemplates marks a key step in the strategic development of the company. They enable automated placement and layout of content while maintaining a high level of editorial control. The editorial team selects articles manually and positions them on the page. If a text is too long or too short, the AI automatically adjusts the content as required. This way of working forms the basis for the possible future use of InterRed SmartPaper, which enables complete print automation.
